Mrit Sanjeevani Puja & Yajna Jaap
Mrit Sanjeevani Puja & Yajna is an extraordinarily powerful, life-restoring Vedic ritual dedicated to Lord Shiva. Rooted in the ancient Sanjeevani Vidya (the science of restoring life), this sacred ceremony combines intense Mahamrityunjaya mantra chanting and a holy fire ritual (Yajna) to bestow supreme protection, overcome critical health crises, ward off untimely death, and bless devotees with longevity and vitality.
The word Mrit means dead or near-death, and Sanjeevani translates to "infusing life." According to Hindu puranas, the secret Sanjeevani Vidya was possessed by Sage Shukracharya, bestowed upon him by Lord Shiva after rigorous penance.
This ritual blends the energies of the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra and the Sanjeevani Mantra, forming an armored spiritual shield around the individual. It is not an ordinary puja; it is highly targeted and performed specifically when someone is battling severe chronic illnesses, facing life-threatening situations, or experiencing intense malefic planetary periods (such as severe Maraka Dasha in Vedic astrology). The visual depicts Lord Shiva in deep, meditative samadhi, symbolizing his ultimate command over time (Mahakala), death, and rebirth.

The ritual begins with the priest stating the patient’s or devotee’s name, birth details (Gotra, Nakshatra), and the specific intent (usually recovery from a disease or protection of life).
2. Preliminary Invocations
Lord Ganesha Puja: Performed first to ensure the smooth, obstacle-free completion of the ritual.
Navagraha Puja: Worship of the nine planets to appease any celestial bodies causing health or life crises.
Shiva Linga & Nandi Puja: Ritual bathing (Abhishekam) of the Shiva Linga using Panchamrit (milk, curd, honey, ghee, sugar), water from holy rivers, and sugarcane juice.
3. The Core Mantra Japa
The priests chant the potent combination of the Mahamrityunjaya and Sanjeevani mantras. This involves a massive, predetermined count (typically 125,000 recitations over several days):

4. Mrit Sanjeevani Yajna (Fire Ritual)
A sacred sacrificial fire (Havan Kund) is prepared.
Special herbs known for Ayurvedic and spiritual healing properties—such as Durva grass, lotus seeds, Amrita (Giloy), black sesame, and pure cow’s ghee—are offered into the fire with every chant of the mantra. The smoke from this Yajna is considered highly purifying and therapeutic for health.
5. Purnahuti & Blessing
The ritual concludes with the Purnahuti (final complete offering to the fire), followed by the Lord Shiva Aarti.
Holy ash (Bhasma) and energized water from the puja are collected to be given to the patient/devotee as a divine protective medicine.
