Budh (Mercury) Graha Shanti Puja
The Budh Graha Shanti Puja is a sacred Vedic astrological ritual dedicated to Budh Dev (Lord Mercury), one of the influential celestial bodies in the Navagraha (nine planets). It is specifically performed to minimize the malefic impacts of a weakened Mercury in a person's birth chart while enhancing traits like intelligence, communication skills, business acumen, and mental clarity.
In Vedic astrology, Budh Dev or Mercury is recognized as the prince among the planets. He rules over the zodiac signs Gemini (Mithuna) and Virgo (Kanya). He is traditionally depicted as a youthful deity dressed in green garments, riding a lion (or a chariot driven by lions/horses), holding a mace, sword, and shield.
When Mercury is afflicted, weak, or positioned poorly in a horoscope (such as during its debilitation or a Budh Mahadasha/Antardasha), it can manifest as speech impediments, learning disabilities, severe business losses, miscommunication, skin problems, and nervous system disorders. Navagraha Mandala Setup: A sacred geometric diagram (Mandala) is drawn, and Budh Dev is invoked into his specific planetary position alongside the other eight planets.
Mantra Japa: The priests perform a specific count (traditionally 9,000 or 17,000 times) of the Budh Beej Mantra using a rudraksha or tulsi rosary:
