Guru Brihaspati Puja
The Guru Brihaspati Puja is a sacred Vedic astrological ritual dedicated to Lord Brihaspati (Jupiter), the spiritual preceptor of the gods. This puja is specifically performed to strengthen a weak or afflicted Jupiter in one's horoscope, unlocking divine blessings for higher education, immense wisdom, wealth, marital harmony, and general prosperity.
In Vedic astrology, Guru Brihaspati (also known as Lord Devaguru) is the largest and most benevolent planet among the Navagraha. He rules over the zodiac signs Sagittarius (Dhanu) and Pisces (Meena). Guru represents wisdom, higher philosophy, spiritual devotion, laws, wealth, and the overall good fortune of an individual. He is also the cosmic Karaka (significator) for marriage and children in a woman's birth chart. As illustrated in traditional iconography, Guru Brihaspati is depicted with a golden, radiant aura, holding sacred texts and tools of knowledge, riding a magnificent white elephant (Airavata), which symbolizes high status, supreme intelligence, and unmatched wisdom.
When Jupiter is weak, retrograde, or afflicted (such as in a Guru Chandal Dosha with Rahu), it can manifest as financial instability, lack of mental focus, extreme delays in marriage, childlessness, skin issues, or liver diseases. 1. Preparation & Timing
The Ideal Day: The ritual must be performed on a Thursday (Guruvar), which is ruled directly by Jupiter.
Auspicious Color: The color yellow is deeply linked with Guru Dev. The devotee should ideally wear yellow clothing, and the altar setup should include yellow elements.
Offerings: Gather items such as yellow flowers (like marigolds), yellow sweets (like Besan Ladoo), bananas, turmeric paste (Haldi), saffron, chana dal (split chickpeas), and yellow cloth.
2. Core Puja Rituals
Ganesha Puja: The ceremony begins with a formal prayer to Lord Ganesha to remove any mechanical or spiritual barriers.
Sankalpa: The pandit recites the devotee’s name, birth star (Nakshatra), and family lineage (Gotra), anchoring the specific protective intent of the puja.
Kalash Sthapana & Invocation: A sacred copper pot filled with water and herbs is installed. Guru Brihaspati is formally invoked into his planetary seat using specialized Vedic hymns.
Mantra Japa: The priests perform a specific count (traditionally 108 or 19,000 times) of the Guru Beej Mantra using a rudraksha or sandalwood rosary:
"Om Gram Greem Groum Sah Gurave Namah"
The Havan (Fire Ritual): A sacred fire is kindled inside the Havan Kunda. Consecrated cow ghee, yellow grains, and sweet mixtures are offered into the fire. A unique addition to this havan is the use of Peepal wood sticks, which are deeply sacred to Jupiter.

Aarti & Pushpanjali: The ceremony concludes with the performance of the Guru Dev Aarti, followed by offering fresh marigold petals to the feet of the deity.
Donation (Dana): To solidify the puja's results, the devotee is guided to donate yellow items—such as yellow clothes, chana dal, turmeric, or bananas—to a local priest, a temple, or those in need on that Thursday.
Prasad Distribution: The blessed yellow sweets and sanctified water are shared with family members to invite wisdom and domestic harmony into the household.
