Pratyangira Puja
The Pratyangira Puja is a powerful Vedic and Tantric ritual dedicated to Goddess Maha Pratyangira Devi, a fierce, lion-faced manifestation of the Divine Mother. Representing the combined energies of Shiva and Shakti, this puja is widely performed as an ultimate divine shield to neutralize black magic, dispel the evil eye, subdue enemies, and destroy intense negativity.
Goddess Pratyangira Devi (also known as Narasimhika or Atharvana Bhadrakali) is depicted with a human body and the face of a lion, symbolizing both immense courage and deep compassion. According to Hindu scriptures, she emerged from the third eye of Lord Shiva to pacify the intense, destructive fury of Lord Narasimha after he defeated the demon king Hiranyakashipu.
The word "Angiras" signifies the application of energy or power (prayoga), while "Prat-Angiras" means its total reversal. Therefore, the core essence of Pratyangira Puja is reversal and protectionโany malevolent energy, curse, or evil spell directed at a devotee is swiftly intercepted, neutralized, and sent back to its source. This worship infuses the surroundings with strong positive vibrations and cleanses long-standing spiritual and emotional blocks.

1. Pre-Ritual Preparation & Timing
Auspicious Days: Usually performed on Amavasya (New Moon Day), Ashtami, Pournami, Tuesdays, or Fridays. Midnight or late-evening hours are traditionally preferred for driving out evil spirits.
Strict Discipline: Performers must take a bath and wear traditional attire. Intoxication, non-vegetarian food, and impure habits must be strictly avoided before and after the puja.
2. Core Steps of the Puja
Ganapathi Pooja & Sankalpa: The ritual begins by invoking Lord Ganesha to remove any barriers during the prayer. The devotee takes a formal vow (Sankalpa) declaring their specific intent or problems to be resolved.
Kalasha Sthapana & Invocation: Sacred water pots decorated with mango leaves and coconuts are placed on the altar to invoke and anchor the divine presence of Goddess Pratyangira.
Mantra Chanting: Priests or devotees chant the powerful Pratyangira Moola Mantra (typically 108 or 1008 times) to create intense vibrational energy:
"Aum Ksham Paksha Jvala Jihve Karala Damshtre Pratyangire Ksham Hreem Hum Phat"
The Havan/Homam (The Fire Ritual): A sacred fire is lit (Agni Pratishtapana). Meticulous, unique offerings are made into the flamesโspecifically dried red chilies, black pepper, and black sesame seeds. Miraculously, despite burning high quantities of red chilies, the smoke from a sincere Pratyangira Homam traditionally does not cause coughing or choking.
