1. Pre-Ritual Setup & Shuddhi
Auspicious Timing: This puja can be performed during any auspicious morning muhurat, but starting during Navratri, on a Full Moon day (Purnima), or a Friday is considered highly effective.
Altar Preparation: The designated puja area is thoroughly cleaned and purified. A wooden platform (Chowki) is set up and draped with a fresh, unblemished red cloth (the color associated with her royal cosmic energy).
Deity Installation: An image or idol of Maa Bhuvaneshwari—traditionally depicted with four arms, holding a noose and a goad while granting blessings—or an energized Bhuvaneshwari Yantra is positioned at the center of the altar.
2. Initial Invocations & Sankalp
Ganpati & Guru Puja: The ritual begins with prayers to Lord Ganesha to eliminate any physical or spiritual obstacles during the ceremony, followed by a salutation to one's spiritual guide (Guru).
Sankalp (The Vow): The host holds a small amount of water, fresh red flowers, and raw rice grains in their right hand. The priest recites your name, birth details, and family lineage (Gotra). You then explicitly state your exact intent—whether you are seeking expansion in business, relief from debts, power and influence in society, or pure spiritual liberation (Moksha).
3. Shodashopachara & Shringar Archana
Panchamrit Abhishek: The deity or Yantra is bathed with a sacred mixture of raw milk, curd, honey, ghee, and sugar, followed by purified water.
Shringar Offering: Because she is the Queen of the cosmos, she is offered traditional royal shringar items including red vermilion (Kumkum), red bangles, red flowers (preferably lotuses or red hibiscus), and aromatic sandalwood paste.
Mantra Jaap: The priests conduct intense chanting of her root (Moola) mantra, traditionally using a crystal rosary (Sphatik Mala) or a lotus seed rosary (Kamal Gatta Mala).
“Om Hreem Shreem Kleem Bhuvaneshwaryai Namah”
4. The Bhuvaneshwari Yajna (Fire Ceremony)
Agni Sthapana: A sacred fire is kindled inside a Havan Kund using clean wood, camphor, and pure cow ghee.
Sacred Offerings (Ahuti): To invoke her specific stabilizing and nurturing traits, special ingredients are offered into the fire. This mixture traditionally includes lotus seeds (Kamal Gatta), white sesame seeds, pure ghee, honey, and aromatic medicinal herbs.
With every offering dropped into the flames, the primary offering mantra is chanted:
“Om Hreem Bhuvaneshwaryai Swaha”
5. Purnaahuti, Bhog & Aarti
Annakut / Bhog Offering: A grand vegetarian meal consisting of rice pudding (Kheer), fresh seasonal fruits, and traditional sweets is presented to the deity and the fire.
Purnaahuti: The remaining sacred herbs and a final coconut wrapped in a red silk cloth are offered together during the Purnaahuti (grand final completion).
Aarti: The ritual concludes with the family standing to perform the Maa Bhuvaneshwari Aarti using a ghee or camphor lamp.
Blessings: The sacred ash (Bhasma) from the Havan is applied to the forehead as a protective mark (Tilak), and the blessed food items are shared among family members.
